23.09.2022 Die am 6. Juli 1952 als Hilary Mary Thompson in Glossop (Derbyshire) geborene britische Schriftstellerin, Kritikerin und Juristin Hilary Mantel (Bild) ist am 22. September 2022 in Exeter (Devon) gestorben. Sie wurde vor allem durch ihre historischen Werke bekannt und erhielt für die Romane "Wolf Hall" (2009) und "Bring Up The Bodies" (2012) jeweils den Booker Prize. Ihr letztes Buch "Learning to Talk" erschien 2022. Im Jahr 2014 wurde Hilary Mantel von Königin Elisabeth II. zur Dame Commander des Order of the British Empire ernannt. Seit 2014 hängt ein Bild von ihr in der British Library. Ab 2020 war Mantel eine von zwölf Personen, die die höchste Auszeichnung der Royal Society of Literature, den Titel Companion of Literature, trug. (*)

Dame Hilary Mantel, author of the best-selling Wolf Hall trilogy, has died aged 70, her publisher has confirmed.

She won the Booker Prize twice, for 2009's Wolf Hall, the first in the Thomas Cromwell series, and its 2012 sequel Bring Up the Bodies.

In a statement, her publisher said: "We are heartbroken at the death of our beloved author, Dame Hilary Mantel." (…) "This is a devastating loss and we can only be grateful she left us with such a magnificent body of work."
