12.11.2021 Der am 30. März 1941 in Rocester (Staffordshire) geborene englische Musiker, Songwriter und Poet Graeme Charles Edge (Bild) ist am 11. November 2021 in Sarasota (Florida, USA) gestorben. Besondere Bekanntheit erlangte er international als Mitgründer, Drummer und Co-Songwriter der englischen Band The Moody Blues. 2018 wurde er als Mitglied der Moody Blues in die Rock and Roll Hall of Fame aufgenommen. In seiner langen Karriere beteiligte sich Edge an vielerlei Projekten, u.a. war er Bandleader seiner eigenen Graeme Edge Band.

Moody Blues drummer Graeme Edge dies age 80

Moody Blues frontman Justin Hayward has paid tribute to bandmate Graeme Edge, who has died at the age of 80.

He was the drummer in the Birmingham-based rock band, famous for such hits as Nights In White Satin and Tuesday Afternoon.

Mr Hayward said: "Graeme's sound and personality is present in everything we did together and thankfully that will live on." He described him as one of the "great characters of the music business".

Tributes flood in as Moody Blues drummer Graeme Edge dies aged 80

He first moved into the music industry himself as the manager of the Blue Rhythm Band and whilst he did try his hand at the drums from time to time, he only started playing the instrument professionally when he was forced to step in for the drummer, who had quit the group.

In addition to drumming, Edge’s poems were often recited as part of album preludes

I have very fond memories of Graeme Edge.

As a young music enthusiast just starting out in music, I saw the original Moody Blues band many times in my hometown of Birmingham England, and Graeme was the driving force behind the band at that time. He was a talented musician whose presence will be greatly missed.
