In Filmen spielte er u.a. an der Seite von Jane Seymour und Roger Moore ("Leben und sterben lassen"), Sigourney Weaver ("Alien – Das unheimliche Wesen aus einer fremden Welt"), Robert Redford ("Brubaker"), Arnold Schwarzenegger ("Running Man") oder Sandra Bullock ("Gestohlene Herzen"). In den Jahren 1993 bis 1999 war Kotto in 118 Folgen der TV-Krimiserie "Homicide" in der Rolle des Al Giardello zu sehen.
