28.12.2023 Der am 28. Juni 1955 in Newark (New Jersey) geborene US-amerikanische bildende Künstler William Pope.L (Bild) ist am 23. Dezember 2023 in Chicago gestorben. Er war vor allem durch seine Arbeit mit Performance-Kunst und interventionistischer Public Art bekannt geworden. Ausserdem betätigte er sich in den Bereichen Malerei, Fotografie und Theater. Im Jahr 2002 nahm er an der Whitney Biennial teil. 2017 war er in Deutschland an der documenta 14. Im Jahr 2010 wurde Pope.L als Fakultätsmitglied an die University of Chicago berufen. (*)

Wearing a business suit and pushing a potted plant, he crawled the length of 42nd Street in New York on his hands and knees, taking him across Times Square, then heavily populated with homeless people, sex workers, drug addicts and others at society’s margins.
