19.04.2024 Der am 12. Dezember 1943 in West Palm Beach (Florida) geborene US-amerikanische Gitarrist, Sänger und Songwriter Richard "Dickey" Betts ist am 18. April 2024 gestorben. Er gehörte zu den Gründungsmitgliedern der US-amerikanischen Allman Brothers Band (ABB), die sich Ende der 1960er-Jahre um die Brüder Duane und Gregg Allman formierte und deren Stil als Southern Rock bezeichnet wird. Seine bekanntesten Kompositionen waren der Hit "Ramblin' Man", "Jessica" sowie das in zahlreichen Improvisationen immer wieder veränderte Instrumentalstück "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed". Das Album "Live at Fillmore East" (1971) der Allman Brothers wird bis heute als ein Meilenstein aller Livealben der Rockmusik angesehen. 2015 befand sich Dickey Betts auf der Liste der 100 grössten Gitarristen aller Zeiten der Musikzeitschrift "Rolling Stone" an 61. It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Betts family announce the peaceful passing of Forrest Richard ‘Dickey’ Betts (December 12, 1943 – April 18, 2024) at the age of 80 years old. The legendary performer, songwriter, bandleader and family patriarch passed away earlier today at his home in Osprey, FL., surrounded by his family.

Dickey was larger than life, and his loss will be felt world-wide.
