Ann Reinking, Tony Winner and Star of Broadway's ‘Chicago,' Dies at 71
News of the actor's death was first announced Monday on Facebook by dancer and choreographer Christopher Dean, who teaches Reinking's niece. "The lights on Broadway are forever more dim this morning and there is one less star in the sky," he wrote. "The good news is that heaven has the very best choreographer on earth now."
'You have to have tunnel vision as a dancer to get to where you're going,'' she told The New York Times in 2002, by which time she was choreographing and directing. ''But once you get there, you have to save yourself by spreading your horizons. It's the paradox of this profession. The very thing that makes you very good will destroy you.''
Discipline and abandon gave the dancer an ingrained elegance, an internal organization of the body that you sense even when it's not pronounced.
Choreographer and Fosse collaborator starred as Roxie in Chicago and appeared on screen in Annie
Ann Reinking, the Broadway star whose elegant style, mesmerising physicality and piercing gaze lit up musicals including Chicago, has died at the age of 71. Her former co-star Chita Rivera was among those paying tribute and said that Reinking's "spirit and razzle-dazzle will be with me for ever".
Für ihren Auftritt in "Chicago" wurde sie 1996 mit dem Tony geehrt, dem wichtigsten US-Theater- und Musicalpreis.
