21.03.2021 Die am 27. Oktober 1931 in Kafr Ṭaḥla geborene ägyptische Ärztin, Schriftstellerin und Menschenrechtlerin Nawal El Saadawi (Bild) ist am 21. März 2021 in Kairo gestorben. 2019 wurde Saadawi, die auch "die Löwin vom Nil" genannt wurde, in die Anthologie "New Daughters of Africa" von Margaret Busby aufgenommen. Nawal El Saadawi hat über 55 Bücher publiziert.

Arab author, women’s rights icon Nawal El-Saadawi dies in Cairo

Egypt’s famed writer Nawal El-Saadawi, who died Sunday aged 89, spent a lifetime vexing politicians and clerics with her fight against the oppression of women and religious taboos.
The author of over 55 books — as well as physician and psychiatrist — was briefly jailed by the late president Anwar Sadat and also condemned by Al-Azhar, Egypt’s highest Sunni Muslim authority.
