Mai 2023 in Küsnacht (Kanton Zürich, Schweiz) gestorben. Sie gehörte mit über 180 Millionen verkauften Tonträgern zu den weltweit erfolgreichsten Sängerinnen. Die gebürtige US-Amerikanerin nahm 2013 die Schweizer Staatsbürgerschaft an.

Soulful diva Tina Turner, who had a lengthy run of ’60s and ’70s R&B hits and struck major pop stardom in the ’80s, died Wednesday in Switzerland. She was 83.

"Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock’n Roll’ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model," her representative said in a statement to "Variety".

And there are some raunchy people out there. The world is not perfect. And all of that is in my performance…. That’s why I prefer acting to singing, because with acting you are forgiven for playing a certain role. When you play that same role every night, people think that you are it. They don’t think you’re acting. That is the scar of what I’ve given myself with my career. And I’ve accepted that.”

Die "Queen of Rock ’n’ Roll" hat mit ihrer gewaltigen Stimme, gewagten Kostümen, sexy Tanzeinlagen und überschäumender Energie ein Millionenpublikum in Ekstase versetzt. Das war vor allem in den 80er- und 90er-Jahren. Nach einer Abschiedstournee 2009 zog sie sich im Alter von 70 Jahren ins Privatleben zurück. Sie genoss nach eigenen Angaben nach Jahrzehnten harter Arbeit fortan das Leben ohne Verpflichtungen.
