06.02.2022 Die am 28. September 1929 in Indore (Madhya Pradesh) geborene indische Sängerin Lata Mangeshkar (Marathi: लता मंगेशकर) ist am 6. Februar 2022 in Mumbai gestorben. Sie sang Lieder für mehr als 1'000 Filme, was ihr den Namen "Nachtigall Indiens" eingetragen hat, und sie gehörte zu den bekanntesten und angesehensten indischen KünstlerInnen.* Lata Mangeshkar war neben der klassischen Sängerin M. S. Subbulakshmi die einzige Sängerin, die den höchsten indischen Nationalpreis erhalten hat.

The star had tested positive for Covid with mild symptoms and was admitted on January 8 to Breach Candy Hospital's intensive care unit (ICU).

She said that on December 16, 1941, she sang two songs for the first time in a radio studio. In her melodious voice, Ms Mangeshkar had sung over 50,000 songs in 14 languages since the radio debut.
Many of Lata Mangeshkar’s songs are on the list of Indian classics like Aaega Aanewala from Kamal Amrohi’s 1949 film Mahal. She sang for the biggest actresses and the biggest films from the 50s to the 90s. She was the voice of the leading ladies of the film industry for decades.

Mangeshkar wurde mit zahlreichen Preisen ausgezeichnet und erhielt unter anderem die höchste zivile Ehrung des Landes, den "Bharat Ratna" (Juwel Indiens). Die aus einer bekannten Musikerfamilie stammende Künstlerin komponierte auch selbst Musik und produzierte Filme. Indiens Regierung kündigte zum Gedenken an die legendäre Sängerin eine zweitägige Staatstrauer an, bei der die Nationalflaggen auf Halbmast gesetzt werden sollten.

Während siebzig Jahren hat eine einzige Singstimme – jene der Playback-Sängerin Lata Mangeshkar – den Emotionen und Affekten eines ganzen Landes Ausdruck gegeben. Am Sonntag ist sie 92-jährig verstorben.
