28.08.2022 Der am 12. November 1938 in Wausau (Wisconsin) geborene US-amerikanische Pianist Warren Bernhardt (Bild) ist am 19. August 2022 gestorben. Er war in den Bereichen Klassische Musik, Jazz, Pop und Folk tätig. Bernhardt war Mitglied der Bands von Paul Winter und Jeremy Steig sowie Co-Leader der Band Steps Ahead und er arbeitete u.a. mit Gerry Mulligan, Clark Terry, George Benson, Art Farmer, Liza Minnelli, Tim Hardin, Richie Havens, Happy Traum, Mike Mainieri, Eddie Gomez, Peter Erskine, Dave Holland, Jimmy Cobb, Steve Gadd, Earl Klug, Michael Brecker, Art Garfunkel und Steely Dan zusammen. Bekannt wurde der stilistisch unglaublich vielseitige Pianist auch durch seine Lehrvideos mit dem Motto "You Can Play Jazz Piano".

Warren Bernhardt, a versatile pianist who performed with jazz groups such as Steps Ahead and L’Image, as well as with pop artists like Simon & Garfunkel, Tim Hardin and Steely Dan, died on August 19, 2022.

It's hard to wrap my mind around the fact that Warren Bernhardt is gone

He was a large presence in every way. Physically, a big, warmhearted, friendly guy; musically, a giant. He could play anything, from Rachmaninoff to bebop and everything in between. His musical ability was off the charts (in every way) but he would accompany a simple folksong as willingly and enthusiastically as he would a complex jazz improvisation. And he played with just about everyone - the list is too long to relate here. He gave of his talents freely and generously and made everyone he played with sound better.
