DER US-AMERIKANISCHE MUSIKPRODUZENT PHIL SPECTOR IST GESTORBEN

17.01.2021 Der am 26. Dezember 1939 in der Bronx (New York City) geborene US-amerikanische Musikproduzent Phil Spector (Bild) ist am 16. Januar 2021 in Stockton (Kalifornien) gestorben. To Know Him Is to Love Him" hatte.

Grammy-winning producer and convicted murderer Phil Spector dies

Spector's approach to record production -- the layering of instrumental tracks and percussion that underpinned a string of hits on his Philles label -- was a major influence on popular music in the 1960s.

He won a Grammy Award for Album of the Year as a producer of "The Concert for Bangladesh."

He was also inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters' Hall of Fame.

Phil Spector's Key Records: From the Ronettes to the Ramones

As loathsome as he may have been as a human being, the eccentric and obsessive genius of Phil Spector  — pronounced dead on January 16, at age 81, while imprisoned for life for a 2003 murder — cannot be ignored. Spector crafted the role of record producer (to say nothing of his songwriting skills) into something iconic and cinematic, building his treasured Wall of Sound aesthetic brick by brick, with wind-swept orchestration, booming and steady rhythms, luxuriously multi-layered vocals and soulful, operatic melodies as his sand and cement.

Phil Spector obituary

By the time he reached his mid-20s, Phil Spector, who has died aged 81, had achieved his ambition of making records that elevated the craft of producing pop singles to something close to an art, the prodigious commercial success of his miniature epics leading Tom Wolfe to describe him, in a celebrated 1964 essay, as “the first tycoon of teen”.
