DER SCHWEIZER GITARRIST UND KOMPONIST VINZ VONLANTHEN IST GESTORBEN

Vinz Vonlanthen (Bild), der am 7. Februar 1959 in Bern geborene Freiburger Jazz- und Improvisationsmusiker (Gitarre, Komposition), ist gestorben. Er hatte einen Berufsschulabschluss als Musiker der Swiss Jazz School. Zeitweise lebte er in Brasilien und ein Jahr in Ghana und er beschäftigte sich auch mit der Musik dieser Länder und afrikanischer Perkussion. (*) Vinz Vonlanthen war Mitglied zahlreicher Bands wie Aventure Dupont, Paris Connection, Snow of Tomorrow, Box Room Orchestra, Les Visiteurs und Urban Safari. Er spielte u.a. mit Bänz Oester, Gilbert Paeffgen, Hans Koch, Olivier Clerc, Jacques Demierre, Olivier Magnenat, Blay Ambolley, Steve Grossman, Marc Bertaux, Adama Dramé, Barry Guy und Kenny Wheeler. Vinz Vonlanthen unterrichtete an der Jazzschule St.Gallen, der Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne und der Ecole de jazz professionnelle de Genève.

Durant 18 ans, Vincent Vonlanthen a été un professeur clé, passionnément engagé. Il a marqué et développé les branches théoriques jazz. D’autre part, il était un professeur de guitare jazz particulièrement motivant et à l’écoute des étudiant.e.s, sans oublier l’artiste reconnu qu’il a été.

Ses collègues du département jazz sont profondément touchés, ils perdent un précieux compagnon de route.

Pour les étudiant.e.s, Vincent était plus qu’un professeur, il était un guide, un «rayon de soleil». Il a donné envie à des centaines de jeunes musicien.ne.s, à se faire confiance, à écouter leur voix intérieure.

Pour toute cette magie musicale et pédagogique, pour son sourire bienveillant, pour son humanité et son engagement envers les jeunes générations nous rendons hommage à Vincent Vonlanthen et le remercions du fond du cœur.

Guitarist Vinz Vonlanthen lives in Geneva, Switzerland. He’s one of the essential personalities of the improvised music scene, also part of a lineage of creative and uncommon European guitarists, constantly looking for new concepts, new ideas, energy and commitment with creation.

He possesses an extraordinary personal voice. The sounds of his «metaguitare» triturated with beads, foam, bows (non exhaustive list) confuse, surprise, cajole and expand the range of the instrument. Micro-textures, melodies and grooves spread the word. His guitar is plucked, painted, beaten, howling on a marble chirp, dizzying, unique, objects vibrating on the strings, producing astonishing  unheard sounds, through a deep, intense, even brutal play, opening the door to imagination and poetry.

Nachtrag vom 30.05.2024:

Der jazzgeschulte Gitarrist bewegte sich am liebsten zwischen den Genres und war ein Zauberer auf seinem Instrument

Er hatte ein Händchen für faszinierende und suggestive Sounds, für mal splittrige, dann wieder flächige Gitarrenklänge, er liebte das Experiment, nicht selten das Risiko.
