04.03.2023 Der am 10. November 1966 in Sheffield (South Yorkshire) geborene englische Bassist, Musikproduzent und Tonmeister Steve Mackey (Bild) ist am 2. März 2023 gestorben. Besondere Bekanntheit erreichte er auch international als Bassist der britischen Alternative-Rock-Band Pulp, die zusammen mit Oasis, Blur und Suede zu den "big four" des Britpop gezählt wurde. Als Produzent arbeitete er u.a. für M.I.A., Florence + the Machine, The Long Blondes und Arcade Fire. Mackey war auch als Fotograf und Filmer tätig. Im Jahr 2005 trat er im Film "Harry Potter und der Feuerkelch" als Bassist der Band The Weird Sisters auf.

Steve Mackey, the bass guitarist for Pulp during the band’s most successful years, has died aged 56

Mackey joined Pulp in 1989, first contributing to their third album Separations. He went on to play on all their subsequent studio albums, including the likes of Different Class and His ’n’ Hers which are regarded as high points in the mid-90s Britpop scene.
