the eth-bibliothek knowledge portal is online
28.06.2010 The Knowledge Portal combines a number of search platforms and smoothly incorporates the search tool into the website.
The ETH-Bibliothek has a new
Internet site. The key feature is a search box which can now be used as the
starting point for your searches. Search engine technology is used to read
multiple information sources at the same time - a total of about 27 million
documents.
This comprises the stock of the NEBIS library network, which includes the
holdings of about 90 libraries, the institutional repository for the ETH Zurich
ETH E-Collection, the Online Image Archival Database and the retro.seals.ch
platform, giving access to full-text versions of more than 80 journals in
digital format.
It also searches in the Multimedia Portal of ETH Zurich, which contains, among
other things, lecture recordings and the ETH-Bibliothek website.
Furthermore, the Digital Article Database Service DADS provided by the
Technical Information Center of Denmark is used to search the metadata for
about 22 million electronic journal articles.
By using search engine-type retrievals based on Ex Libris Primo, the ETH-Bibliothek is responding to changing ways of working in the sciences and to the expectations that "digital natives" have of a modern search tool.
Various features will soon be introduced to make using the Knowledge Portal even easier. Over the next few years, other information services will be added to the Knowledge Portal, making it the main, all-inclusive search tool for ETH Zurich and the general public.
