Sie wurde in den 1980er-Jahren durch die Serien "North and South" ("Fackeln im Sturm") und "Cheers" sowie die Filmreihe "Look Who’s Talking" ("Kuck mal, wer da spricht!") über die USA hinaus bekannt. Kirstie Alley erhielt für ihre Arbeiten zwei Emmy Awards und einen Golden Globe.
