Der amerikanische Kameramann Gordon Willis, der berühmte Filme wie «The Godfather» (Bild), «Annie Hall» und «Manhattan» drehte, ist tot. Wie das US-Branchenblatt «Hollywood Reporter» berichtete, bestätigte der Verband «American Society of Cinematographers» seinen Tod.

Zahlreichen Filmen verhalf Willis zu einer einzigartigen und atemberaubenden Optik. Der Kameramann spielte gekonnt mit Licht und Schatten und gab vor allem Coppolas "Paten" ein düsteres und abgründiges Antlitz. Im Jahr 2009 erhielt Willis einen Oscar für sein Lebenswerk.
Influential cinematographer Gordon Willis, whose photography for Francis Ford Coppola's "The Godfather" series and Woody Allen's "Annie Hall" and "Manhattan" helped define the look of 1970s cinema, has died. He was 82 and a longtime resident of Falmouth, Mass.
Willis was known as the Prince of Darkness for his artful use of shadows, and served as cinematographer or director of photography on seminal 1970s films including Alan J. Pakula's "Klute," "The Parallax View" and "All the President's Men" and James Bridges' "The Paper Chase."
