Dezember 2021 in Québec gestorben. Vallée war u.a. Regisseur des Films "Dallas Buyers Club", der Serie "Big Little Lies" und des Films "Victoria, die junge Königin" mit Emily Blunt.

Le réalisateur québécois Jean-Marc Vallée, à qui on doit les films C.R.A.Z.Y. et Dallas Buyers Club, est décédé subitement à l'âge de 58 ans. (…) L'annonce de ce décès laisse le milieu artistique sous le choc. C’est une grande perte, sa carrière était loin d’être terminée. His breakthrough came with 2005’s "C.R.A.Z.Y.", which won four Genie Awards in Canada, including Best Picture, Screenplay and Director for Vallée. After directing "The Young Victoria" and "Cafe de Flore", Vallée really hit his stride with "Dallas Buyers Club", based on the true-life tale of Ron Woodroof, a Texas electrician who was diagnosed with AIDS and given a month to live.

Vallée said in a 2019 video for The Hollywood Reporter he was very careful about selecting the projects he was willing to take on. "Choosing your film is choosing your lifestyle," said Vallée. "Are you going to be happy waking up in the morning, doing this and serving it?“

Kino ohne Eitelkeiten
Als Regisseur waren ihm Eitelkeiten fremd. Er sagte über sich selbst, dass er seinen Filmen keinen Stil aufdrücken wollte, dass er sich immer mehr als Erzähler denn als Filmemacher verstehe. Seine Darstellerinnen und Darsteller sollten im Mittelpunkt seiner Geschichten stehen. Die dankten es ihm mit herausragenden Performances. In seiner ersten großen Studio-Produktion „Dallas Buyers Club“ (2013) über die Anfänge der Aidskrise in den achtziger Jahren gewannen Matthew McConaughey und Jared Leto beide Oscars für die beste Haupt- und Nebenrolle. Im folgenden Jahr erhielten seine beiden Darstellerinnen Reese Witherspoon und Laura Dern Nominierungen für „Wild“.
