DER JAPANISCHE MANGA-MEISTER LEIJI MATSUMOTO IST GESTORBEN

20.02.2023 Der am 25. Januar 1938 in Kurume geborene japanische Mangaka, Autor, Zeichner, Designer und Regisseur Leiji Matsumoto (Bild) ist am 13. Februar 2023 in Tokio gestorben. Er war vor allem durch seine zahlreichen Space Operas bekannt geworden. Wichtige Werke seines Schaffens sind "Captain Harlock", "Ginga Tetsudō 999" oder "Uchū Senkan Yamato". Matsumoto hatte u.a. einen Anime-Film zu den Songs des französischen Elektroduos Daft Punk erstellt. Ein Teil dieses Films wurde für den Videoclip zum Daft-Punk-Hit "One More Time" aus dem Jahr 2000 verwendet.

Leiji Matsumoto, famed for 'Space Battleship Yamato' anime, dies at 85

Manga artist Leiji Matsumoto, well known for his works “Space Battleship Yamato” and the series “Galaxy Express 999,” died of acute heart failure at a Tokyo hospital on Feb. 13, his company announced Monday.

Famed Japanese manga and anime creator Leiji Matsumoto, whose real name was Akira Matsumoto, has died aged 85, his studio has announced.

More than 150 of his manga stories depicted the tragedy of war - Matsumoto was seven years old when World War Two ended. Many years later, he said he had been inspired by his own father, who had been elite army pilot and had taught him that war should never be fought because it "destroys your future".
