29.12.2022 Die am 8. April 1941 als Vivienne Isabel Swire in Tintwistle (Derbyshire) geborene englische Modedesignerin Vivienne Westwood (Bild) ist am 29. Dezember 2022 in Clapham (London) gestorben. Sie wurde bekannt mit der Erfindung der Punk-Mode Mitte der 1970er-Jahre. Später waren ihre Entwürfe geprägt von neu und exzentrisch zusammengesetzten Kombinationen aus historischer Bekleidung, seltenem Textilgewebe und farbenfrohen Webmustern. Von 1989 bis 2005 nahm sie Lehraufträge für Modedesign an der Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien und an der Universität der Künste Berlin wahr. Vivienne Westwood engagierte sich in vielen Initiativen im Bereich von Menschenrechten, Abrüstung, Klima- und Umweltschutz. (*)

Vivienne Westwood: Pioneering fashion designer dies aged 81
In a statement on Twitter, her fashion house said she died "peacefully and surrounded" by her family in Clapham, south London.
Westwood made her name with her controversial punk and new wave styles in the 1970s and went on to dress some of the biggest stars in fashion.

The shop became a meeting place for punk bands, and Westwood’s creations, worn by London punk rockers, introduced a new style to the world that made use of pinned-together pieces, rubber and plastic clothes, lots of zippers, tartan bondage trousers, torn fabric and graffitied t-shirts. Chrissie Hynde and members of the Sex Pistols were among the influential shop’s employees.
