10.04.2023 Der am 29. September 1945 in Solothurn geborene Schweizer Grafiker, Illustrator, Maler, Plakatkünstler, Musiker, Instrumentenbauer und Politaktivist Marc Rudin (Jihad Mansour) ist am 8. April 2023 in Zürich gestorben. Mit seinen grafischen Werken setzte er sich von 1979 bis 1991 ganz besonders für die Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) ein. Wegen eines Sprengstoffanschlags auf die spanische Imef-Bank in Fribourg-Freiburg wurde Marc Rudin im Frühjahr 1980 in Abwesenheit zu vier Jahren Zuchthaus verurteilt. Im Oktober 1993 wurde Rudin in Dänemark wegen Raub zu einer 8jährigen Freiheitsstrafe verurteilt und im Februar 1997 auf Bewährung freigelassen und in die Schweiz ausgewiesen.

Earlier today, the world lost the great artist Marc Rudin, also known as Jihad Mansour, following a struggle with illness. Marc was the principal artist behind much of the PFLP's propaganda. Today, we mourn his loss, which is a loss to the Palestinian and internationalist cause, as he embodied the spirit of liberation in his art.
As we remember his legacy, let us also acknowledge the importance of supporting artists who strive to remain true to their vision, free from the confines of institutions that may stifle their revolutionary voice. The world needs artists like Marc who challenge norms and speak truth.

Ein talentierter Revolutionär
Er war Grafiker und politischer Aktivist, spielte auf dem Cello Schweizer Volksmusik, kämpfte für die linke Volksfront für die Befreiung Palästinas und sass wegen eines Postüberfalls jahrelang im Gefängnis.
